NEW VALORANT UPDATE - BEING A GAMER GIRL IN BRONZE!

Pebble's Gaming Diaries

Hi everyone,

Since we last spoke, Valorant underwent one heck of an update!

Not only were we introduced to the new agent Harbor:

Valorant Harbor

HARBOR BIOGRAPHY (Riot Games, 2022)

“Hailing from India’s coast, Harbor storms the field wielding ancient technology with dominion over water. He unleashes frothing rapids and crushing waves to shield his allies and pummel those that oppose him.”

ABILITIES (Riot Games, 2022)

  • HIGH TIDE (Key bind = E)

A wall of water.

  • COVE (Key bind = Q)

A sphere of shielding water.

  • CASCADE (Key bind = C)

A wave of water that slows players hit by it.

  • RECKONING (Key bind = X)

Summon a geyser pool on the ground, to concuss those caught by it.

But Riot also updated the game's aesthetics:

I must say, personally, I and some of my friends aren’t particularly swayed by Valorant’s new look, and neither is the rest of the community judging from these comments on Twitter:

However, as a business student, I can appreciate the necessity of updating your product and its appearance, keeping it relevant to staymodern’ and continue to attract current and new players. No one likes to be irrelevant and out of business!

On another note, I still have no WiFi, but I have played quite a few games. My first game back after the update was to regain my rank. I was absolutely dreading that Valorant would throw me right back into the depths of Iron. HOWEVER, I came out straight into Bronze 1 where I left off, and have worked my way into Bronze 2 in just three games.

I have also spoken a few times in game and was quite pleasantly surprised. No one has criticised me or cursed at me for being a girl, which is what we love to see! I’ve only been called a child in unrated matches because I mess around with my team to see how seriously they take this game, oopsy, but when I do speak absolutely no one cares that I’m female.

I have also had a few female teammates who have spoken throughout the whole game and had nothing but support or equal treatment. Until I work out how to record gameplay without my PC imploding :D, I, unfortunately, cannot show you proof/footage of these interactions. So, you’ll just have to take my word for it <3

Up and up we go girls!! Maybe the Valorant community doesn’t care so much about gender anymore???

In Wednesday’s blog, I will be discussing an article that my wonderful sister sent me yesterday, in which the lovely Chloe Grace Moretz discusses the ‘lack of respect for female gamers’ and the current age of technological dependency. I can’t wait to share the article with you, as well as my take on her commentary.

Look forward to next week, till then stay well!!
